Miami meets the Maldives…in the Bahamas.

The Maldives is landing in Miami. Instead of jetting off to Palm Beach, a new option is coming to town to help the elite of South Beach escape to a luxurious paradise. Developer Rafael Reyes, owner of Rockwell Island Development Group, is developing Banyan Tree Bimini, only 48 miles from South Florida (roughly 40 minute by boat). Set to open in 2027, the anticipation is high for the 750-acre property with 50-key rooms, with prices going for $3,000 a night at the coveted overwater villas facing a vast lagoon, that resemble the Maldives.
There will be 54 private custom waterfront residences starting at $3.5M with a select few available for sale in 2025. Each of the homes will have a private dock, beach access, and concierge service. Sir Richard Branson is also planning to create an onsite beach club Bonito Beach Club, which will offer VIP service like private cabanas to yachting and tender services.
“Since beginning work on Banyan Tree Bimini Resort & Residences, we have held true to the philosophy that the architecture should celebrate the island’s spirit of place,” says architect Chad Oppenheim, who was tapped to lead the design. “Our mission has been to celebrate the essence of Bimini through design that becomes hidden in the landscape. There is artistry in the change of sky, water, and light, and we translated those qualities into timeless homes and bungalows that celebrate the island’s natural beauty.”
Banyan Tree Bimini will be an unmatched getaway destination for the luxury traveler. There will be many unique amenities for guests to enjoy, including a beach club, a lounge, a signature restaurant, a library and a bar — all of which will focus on locally sourced and seasonal cuisine. In terms of wellness, the signature Banyan Tree Spa will also be available at the Bimini resort.
Spanning 5 square miles, Bimini is surrounded by shallow, clear waters. The development company which is a subsidiary of RAV Bahamas Ltd., has acquired over half the island since the 1990s, developing infrastructure including a seaplane port, helipads and a ferry terminal for easy port access to the island oasis. The Banyan Tree brand is known for its standout, luxurious accommodations, and for curating local experiences at its hotels and resorts. Bimini will be a nice addition to the collection.
