COMO Castello Del Nero, Tuscany, is an exceptional 740-acre, historic estate in the world-famous Chianti wine region of Italy.
Just a 30-minute drive from Aeroporto di Firenze-Peretola, Florence’s international airport, the hotel features 50 rooms and suites, many of which have views across the surrounding Chianti countryside. The castle’s historic, fresco walls and vaulted ceilings remain untouched, while Milanese interior designer, Paola Navone, has introduced a light and modern ‘COMO’ aesthetic. Whitewashed walls and terracotta floors, high ceilings, soft furnishings and sunlight spilling through windows make every room an elegant, pared-back haven.
If you want to feel like you are in your own Italian heaven, their secluded Villa San Luigi — with a private pool and sweeping countryside views — is ready to book. Their grounds also include Podere San Filippo: a modern farmhouse for independent family stays, just a 25-minute walk from the main resort.
COMO Castello Del Nero has three dining locations: the Michelin-starred La Torre restaurant showcases gourmet Italian cuisine using the finest Tuscan produce, while La Taverna and Pavilion offer more informal dining experiences. La Taverna features a relaxed bar, where guests can choose from a selection of Italian-inspired dishes.
There is also a wine cellar set in the original twelfth-century castle. Italy’s long wellness heritage is reflected in the resort’s COMO Shambhala Retreat, where therapeutic massages are designed to help you take positive steps to improve your health. Yoga is provided as a complimentary activity as well. Immerse yourself in Tuscan culture with truffle hunting, wine and olive oil tastings and cooking classes. The jewel cities of the medieval and Renaissance periods - Siena and Florence - can also be easily explored.
Go on a Wine tour in the region. Their sommelier will share his knowledge of Chianti Classico wines during an hour-long tasting session. Each wine is accompanied by a range of delicious Tuscan cold cuts and pecorino sheep cheese.
Regarding wellness, COMO Castello Del Nero offers a full range of specialist facials, massages and body treatments. Facilities include a gym and thermal suites, including an invigorating ice fountain, a gentle sauna, an aromatic steam room and a heated hydrotherapy pool. The relaxation area offers panoramic views across the surrounding vineyards and olive groves, while you can go for a nice tennis session among their two tennis courts.
