π§ PLACE: SKY TING YOGA STUDIO
An Inclusive Studio with Minimalist Design for Yoga Enthusiasts.
SKY TING is a beautifully designed yoga studio that offers the highest quality of yoga in a relaxed environment. The in-person studio is great for those practicing at all levels and is a welcoming community. You can practice with their down to earth teachers (like Francesca Valarezo) in their open loft yoga space in Chinatown, which features a big skylight, exposed ceilings, large windows, and oak floors flanked with plants and a large stuffed Giraffeβ¦just for fun. SKY TING offers a hybrid of different yoga lineages ranging from Katonah, Hatha, Taoist, and Vinyasa practices, and different meditation and breathing practices. Sign up for class HERE. Also, they offer international yoga retreats - be sure to check those out HERE.
βSKY TING encourages their teachers to instruct the blend of material in which they most identify and believe, rather than sticking to a prescribed generic curriculum. They feel this direction helps create the most passionate, responsive and nurturing learning experience for their students.β - MindBody
SKY TING founders Krissy Jones and Chloe Kernaghan know how to do yoga and build a sustainable business around their practices. Known as a disruptor in the business of yoga, having previously grown to multiple studios and profiles in Vogue, the brandβs biggest pivot was actually the creation of SKY TING TV, a subscription- based platform with a library of classes focused on practical wellness techniques. Coupled with their in-person studio in Chinatown and international retreats around the world, SKY TING has increased its footprint in the yoga world, and continues to grow with their video collection of βsnackable yoga for busy schedules.β
A SKY TING TV subscription includes access to videos such as βYoga For Dadsβ and βSurf Inspired Mini Classβ and are shot in the original New York studios accompanied by instruction and exclusive heart-to-hearts from the founders. SKY TING TV has a wealth of options varying in length, level and style, including a mix of meditation and breathing practices. Check it out! Itβs like a choose your-own-adventure for ONLY $20/month.
π§ MEET THE YOGI IN BUSINESS
Francesca is a force of nature as a yogi, Shamanic Guide, and entrepreneur.
1. Tell us about your background as a yogi and entrepreneur.
I founded Shamanek during the lockdown in 2020, I felt the need to share my healing journey with others. Shamanek is a modern compilation of the ancient teachings, rituals, self care practices, and sacred tools that guided me through my own mental health journey. I also teach a month-long embodiment course via my home yoga studio SKY TING yoga that provides a deeper exploration of the practices and tools where participants will learn and experience reiki, shamanic journeying, and journaling to promote self inquiry, healing, and personal growth.
I also co-foundedΒ Pianta with my partner who is a plant-based culinaryΒ director.Β Pianta began in 2018 in our kitchen in Brooklyn, NY. We wanted to create nutritious, beautiful and vibrant food. Food for healing.Β Our plant based cheese is thoughtfully made with fermented & activated cashews. It is packed with enzymes, vitamins, adaptogenic herbs and live cultures. Feels ethereal and exquisite. We believe in the integrity of food and mindful eating.Β I am a big proponent of gluten free, probiotic, organic,Β vegan, raw, immunity wheel eating.
2. What is the inspiration behind your brand?Β
My teachers, serving my community and the evolution of consciousness for the wellbeing of our planet.Β
3. What are some current wellness industry trends?
I feel like alcohol sobriety is a big one at this moment in the wellnessΒ community. I think that collectively, we have realized the negative impact thatΒ alcohol has on our health, our mood and hormonal balance.Β I also think plant-based eating is growing for variousΒ reasons like: environmental harm reduction and a more health consciousΒ diet. Eating for nourishment and pleasure ratherΒ than just for pure pleasure.Β Lastly, REST is on trend. Acknowledging that less is more and that embodiment practices such as Restorative Yoga, Yin yoga and breathwork are incredible waysΒ to hack our nervous system and get more rest. I really hold strong boundaries with my sleep and rest time.
4. What are some of your favorite beauty and wellness brands, and why?Β
IΒ really love clean makeup brands like Saie. I also love Sakara's meals, and I eat a lot of Pianta cheese and Seed probiotics. Basically anything that supports gut health and my microbiome.
5. What are your favorite wellness destinations and/or retreats?Β
Civana Wellness Resort and Spa is my favorite. They have anΒ incredible culinary director and the most up to date wellness programming. I have been a guest teacher a couple of times and I love it there. Everything is just so magical and inspiring!
