A rare private island resort tucked away in Florida

For those in a relationship looking to go off the grid, you’ll have to check out the secret retreat called Little Palm Island, a private island resort frequented previously by the likes of President Harry Truman back in the day. Amenities at the resort include a full-service, fine-dining, ocean-front restaurant, SpaTerre, a fitness center, a dive shop, and a swimming pool and adjacent bar. Additionally, the resort has a marina with three separate docks that can accommodate yachts up to 120 feet in length. Little Palm Island has been consistently recognized as one of the top destination resorts in the world; Condé Nast Traveler and Reader’s Choice Awards recently ranked the resort as one of the “Top 10 Resorts in the U.S.” and “Best Resorts in the World for 2020.”
As one of the only private islands in America, it is known as an ultra-luxe private island resort for the modern traveler. In 2020, the resort reopened with renovations that make it an exotic castaway and fantasy for the adults-only elite within the United States. After taking the motor yacht from the Keys to the island, you’ll meet an island host who will explain the rules of your stay — no TVs, no kids (under 18), and no distractions (cell phones must be kept on silent). Wellness is all about being present, and this Island will help you focus on spending quality romantic time with your significant other.
There is a strict 60 guests maximum on the 4-acre island with a total of 30 thatched-roof bungalow suites surrounded by palm trees and silky white sand. You won’t feel like you’re in Florida when you arrive because of the bohemian and elegant interiors, which take on “a classic British West Indies elegance.” Each of Little Palm Island’s thatched-roof bungalows comes with a dreamy four-post plush bed, a spacious deck, a private tanning area, an outdoor shower, copper bathtubs against the water front ocean views. Some bungalows have fire pits too, for cuddling by at night. Those guests with boats can dock it and head over to the bunglow. With only one Dining Room at Little Palm, your meals are scattered because the menu is available for all guests dining in their rooms, by the pool, on the beach, and during the evening.
What is great about the wellness aspect of the island is the spa called SpaTerre. This spa is underscored by a breezy, two-story atrium and offers Biologique Recherche facials, CBD treatments, and massages, and other unique experiences like the four-hands Ocean Wave treatment, Dead Sea Body Polish, or a Margarita Key Lime Pedicure. Reenergize your self with a an Abhyanga Massage with Shirodhara or experience a sound therapy treatment and massage on their quartz sand table. Couples can indulge in a Heart Chakra Ritual together, and the team at the Spa uses techniques from around the world, along with inspiration from the Caribbean, and herbs and minerals indigenous to the South Florida area.
Little Palm also has a few eco-minded initiatives including reef restoration and seagrass protection programs, which are amazing to witness. As an eco-friendly property, the island also uses Vero Water dispensers to avoid single-use plastic water bottles and has done away with straws altogether. Complimentary resort activities include renting paddle boards, fishing equipment, snorkel gear, kayaks, sailboats, and Whalers for guests to take out as they please to nearby sandbars and reefs. Scott Colee drives the company’s marketing, creative output and brand development working with property, regional, and corporate sales and marketing professionals to develop campaigns across channels, manage public relations, build brand identities, plan major events, and solidify partnerships. Scott founded the company’s internal ad agency, which is responsible for governing the company’s creative assets, and developing all media, web, electronic and print, for the various entities and outlets.
