Hang ten in the coastal French surf city of Biarritz. Surfers catch the swells of their dreams while taking part in the ultimate French surf retreat in Basque Country with Bonanza Collective. Bonanza Collective is a surf retreat collective curated by two (very cool) girls who fell in love with the Basque Country, surfing, and all the region has to offer. Located only two hours by train from the closest biggest wine city of Bordeaux, Biarritz is the most amazing summer (or year-round to be honest) getaway. From the fresh farmer’s market food to the sweeping landscapes and of course the cool locals (les biarrots in French) — this destination is THE Montauk of France. Fun Fact - European royalty used to vacation here in the 1800s, which is no surprise at all as elegant villas dot the coast, and sweeping views of Biscay Bay are filled with surfers new and old.
Nothing beats watching a breathtaking sunset at the Côte des Basques after a long day of surfing with a glass of wine in your hand. Every retreat is filled with relaxing and local programming like surf and yoga sessions, farmer’s market trips to pick up local wine and cheese, sunset walks and city discoveries. Fill your days enjoying the Basque Country, going on hikes and having a taste of what all the local musicians, artists and creatives have to offer. You’ll go for sunrise AND sunsets swims, attend surf sessions and yoga led by Elin who is a certified hatha/yin teacher who will provide a mix of flows and meditative yin sessions. Also, Bonanza is open to all surf levels. Amanda and Elin want you to become confident at your own pace, so that you keep surfing on your own even after the retreat.
Experience the romance of the French. Sleep in a beachfront villa in Guéthary, a small fishing village (very typical of the region) while on the retreat. The Bonanza concept is intimate and hearty: the villa accommodates 12 guests and all 5 rooms are equipped with double beds that are shared. Come meet amazing humans from around the world and make life-long friends while surfing on the coast of one of France’s most romantic cities. Breakfast is served by Bonanza (vegan/veggie options available) and the rest of the day is a mix of home-cooked lunch/dinner parties in their garden & a taste of the city’s best eateries. National Swedish surf champion leads surf retreats in Biarritz.
Amanda Djerf is full force of nature as a content creator, social media manager, retreat host and national Swedish surf champion. It all started when she was living in Monterey, California, where her dad introduced her to surfing. After graduating with a law degree, she traveled the world and ultimately fell in love with Biarritz and Guéthary, where her charming Bonanza beachfront villa and surf community is located. Bringing her friend Elin into this adventure, the duo created Bonanza Collective, a surf collective and retreat to experience the beauty of the coastal Biarritz region and all the activities it has to offer. Also working alongside her sister Matilda Djerf for the brand “Djerf Avenue”, we absolutely love her style vibe: staple pieces, quality basics coupled with unique vintage or colorful items.
