🌊 PLACE: GURNEY’S SPA IN MONTAUK
The Seawater Spa has 19 treatment rooms in a 30,000 SF spa with ocean views.
Driving alongside the Montauk Highway with the windows down (or in your convertible), you get a whiff of the salty ocean breeze as you pull up to Gurney’s Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa. Known as the go-to destination for Hampton socialites and the like, Gurney’s Montauk also boasts a 2,000-foot-long private sand beach with 152 rooms/suites and beachfront cottages. Gurney’s newly reimagined 30,000-square-foot Seawater Spa is the latest retreat featuring diverse wellness treatments that range from massages, skincare, bodywork, Clean Market IV Drips, vitamin shots, and the BathHouse.
Since 1926, Gurney’s has been the long-standing Montauk seaside resort and has always been a go-to wellness destination. Originally in planning since roughly 2017, the Seawater Spa is now open to the public after owners invested $20 million into the facility. The spa has two stories which house 19 treatment rooms, with two reserved for couples. The latest wellness innovations and treatments are found at the Seawater Spa. Guests can sample a range of treatments from a CBD-infused massage, a seaweed-leaf body wrap, a three-session scalp treatment, high-performance LED light therapy, a Gua Sha facial, Reiki healing, and more, alongside dramatic million-dollar ocean views. With each massage, guests are pampered by high-end products and brands such as OSEA, Biologique Recherche, VOYA, Aesop, and more.
Sustainable architecture and design are fundamental to Gurney’s and its spa. Working with famous architecture firm Alonso Balaguer Designs (also the architect behind AIRE Ancient Baths) on the aesthetic vision behind the spa, the team aimed to create a modern wellness sanctuary that highlighted natural elements of elegance and luxury. Alonso Balaguer Designs helped the spa install a “regenerative media filtration system” for the pool to help manage its water and energy usage. Additionally, the spa has a co-ed BathHouse that has four 12-foot-long pools featuring two hot pools and cold plunges that help guests stimulate circulation and mindfulness. Guests can also visit the Eucalyptus steam room, the Finnish sauna, or the Himalayan salt room which features a massage table built of minerals and pure salt crystals.
After sampling all of the amazing treatments and amenities that Gurney’s Spa offers, guests can then access the intimate lounge area or check out the workout room, which overlooks the water. Typically I want to get food and drinks after hours of treatments and relaxation, so I would personally head over to the nearby Scarpetta restaurant which is famous for its elevated dining experience that is aligned with the Gurney’s brand. If you have the opportunity to check out Gurney’s, you will receive an unforgettable white-glove service experience that will make you never want to leave (P.S.
